① NASDAQ 100 Index weight adjustment: Apple rises to 9.8%, NVIDIA rises to 8.4%; ② Due to Broadcom's cumulative increase of over 40% in December triggering the 4.5% threshold, the last adjustment was in mid-2023; ③ The NASDAQ 100 Index has increased by about 28% this year, NVIDIA has increased by over 182%, Broadcom has increased nearly 111%, only Microsoft has underperformed the Index.
According to data compiled by the media, as of December 24, Tesla, Meta, and Broadcom have seen a decrease in their weights in the NASDAQ 100 Index, while Apple, NVIDIA, Microsoft, Google, and Amazon have seen an increase in their influence on the Index.
Specifically, the data shows that in the NASDAQ 100 Index, Apple's weight rose from 9.2% last Friday to 9.8%, NVIDIA rose from 7.9% to 8.4%, and Microsoft and Amazon also saw increases, while Google's rise was relatively small.
At the same time, Broadcom's weight decreased from 6.3% to 4.4%, Tesla fell from 4.9% to 3.9%, and Meta's weight dropped from 4.9% to 3.3%. This is also the second adjustment of the weights of components in the NASDAQ in nearly a year.

It should be noted that the "NASDAQ" among the three major U.S. stock indices usually refers to the "Nasdaq Composite Index", which has more than 3,000 components; the NASDAQ 100 Index is the "selected version" of the Nasdaq Composite Index, consisting of 100 components.
These 100 Stocks span across Technology, media, and Consumer sectors, characterized by high technology, high growth, and non-financial features. Currently popular "GFNZ100" tracking mostly follows the NASDAQ 100 Index, including QQQ, which has a size exceeding 320 billion dollars.
This also means that if a stock's weight in the NASDAQ 100 Index increases, it will receive passive buying from Funds, and vice versa. Regarding how to adjust the weight of this key Index, Nasdaq's rules are quite complex and have multiple interpretations.
Media analysis indicates that the weight of the NASDAQ 100 Index is generally determined by the relative Market Cap of its constituent Stocks. However, it is also constrained by several rules, such as when the total weight of all companies that account for 4.5% or more of the benchmark reaches or exceeds 48%, adjustments must be made.
The reason for this adjustment is that Broadcom has already increased by over 40% in December, triggering the 4.5% threshold. The last time this happened was in mid-2023, when the 'Seven Giants' made their mark, necessitating an adjustment of the Index weight.
Interactive Brokers Chief Strategy Officer Steve Sosnick commented, 'This is very technical. In some respects, the NASDAQ 100 Index has to do this because the largest Stocks in the Index have grown too astonishingly compared to the rest.'
As of Monday's close, the NASDAQ 100 Index has increased by approximately 28% year-to-date, but NVIDIA has surged over 182% during this period, Broadcom has risen nearly 111%, Tesla and Meta have increased over 70%, Amazon has grown by more than 48%, Google has risen nearly 40%, Apple has increased by 33%, and only Microsoft has not outperformed the Index.
