Do Its Financials Have Any Role To Play In Driving Roshow Technology Co., Ltd.'s (SZSE:002617) Stock Up Recently?

Simply Wall St ·  Dec 24 11:42

Most readers would already be aware that Roshow Technology's (SZSE:002617) stock increased significantly by 81% over the past three months. Given that stock prices are usually aligned with a company's financial performance in the long-term, we decided to study its financial indicators more closely to see if they had a hand to play in the recent price move. In this article, we decided to focus on Roshow Technology's ROE.

ROE or return on equity is a useful tool to assess how effectively a company can generate returns on the investment it received from its shareholders. Put another way, it reveals the company's success at turning shareholder investments into profits.

How To Calculate Return On Equity?

Return on equity can be calculated by using the formula:

Return on Equity = Net Profit (from continuing operations) ÷ Shareholders' Equity

So, based on the above formula, the ROE for Roshow Technology is:

2.0% = CN¥121m ÷ CN¥6.2b (Based on the trailing twelve months to September 2024).

The 'return' is the yearly profit. So, this means that for every CN¥1 of its shareholder's investments, the company generates a profit of CN¥0.02.

What Is The Relationship Between ROE And Earnings Growth?

We have already established that ROE serves as an efficient profit-generating gauge for a company's future earnings. We now need to evaluate how much profit the company reinvests or "retains" for future growth which then gives us an idea about the growth potential of the company. Generally speaking, other things being equal, firms with a high return on equity and profit retention, have a higher growth rate than firms that don't share these attributes.

Roshow Technology's Earnings Growth And 2.0% ROE

It is hard to argue that Roshow Technology's ROE is much good in and of itself. Even when compared to the industry average of 6.4%, the ROE figure is pretty disappointing. Despite this, surprisingly, Roshow Technology saw an exceptional 33% net income growth over the past five years. Therefore, there could be other reasons behind this growth. Such as - high earnings retention or an efficient management in place.

Next, on comparing with the industry net income growth, we found that Roshow Technology's growth is quite high when compared to the industry average growth of 10% in the same period, which is great to see.

SZSE:002617 Past Earnings Growth December 24th 2024

Earnings growth is a huge factor in stock valuation. What investors need to determine next is if the expected earnings growth, or the lack of it, is already built into the share price. By doing so, they will have an idea if the stock is headed into clear blue waters or if swampy waters await. One good indicator of expected earnings growth is the P/E ratio which determines the price the market is willing to pay for a stock based on its earnings prospects. So, you may want to check if Roshow Technology is trading on a high P/E or a low P/E, relative to its industry.

Is Roshow Technology Making Efficient Use Of Its Profits?

Given that Roshow Technology doesn't pay any regular dividends to its shareholders, we infer that the company has been reinvesting all of its profits to grow its business.

Summary

Overall, we feel that Roshow Technology certainly does have some positive factors to consider. With a high rate of reinvestment, albeit at a low ROE, the company has managed to see a considerable growth in its earnings.
