These two high-profile games brought Netflix strong ratings.
The Zhitong Finance App learned that Netflix (NFLX.US) livestreamed two National Football League (NFL) games on Christmas day, providing users with a smooth streaming experience and receiving high praise from users. Importantly, these two high-profile games brought Netflix strong ratings.
According to Nielsen's National Ratings Report, an average of 24.2 million viewers watched the two live NFL games during the Christmas season. The Kansas City Chiefs and Pittsburgh Steelers game attracted 24.1 million viewers, and the Baltimore Ravens victory over the Houston Texans attracted 24.3 million viewers. During the halftime between the Ravens and Texans, Beyoncé's performance attracted 27 million viewers and peaked in ratings.
Notably, Netflix broke streaming ratings records for all NFL games, while also setting ratings records among important people aged 18 to 34.
Nielsen reports that 65 million people in the US watched the streaming giant's NFL live stream for at least one minute. Netflix is expected to release its ratings data next week. Global ratings for these contests will also be announced. “Bringing two record NFL games to our members was the best Christmas gift we could give,” said Bela Bajaria, Netflix's chief content officer.
Netflix also topped the list of trending topics on several social media sites during the Christmas season.
Netflix has signed a three-year Christmas broadcast agreement with the NFL, but there is no guarantee that the company will broadcast more than one game in 2025 and 2026. Looking ahead, Netflix has signed an agreement to broadcast the WWE program and the Women's World Cup tournament in 2027 and 2031.
