Crude oil futures were higher, and market trading was light at the end of the year. Investors are monitoring the situation in the Middle East while evaluating the market outlook for 2025.

West Texas Intermediate (WTI) futures rose 1.4%, and the settlement price was around $71 per barrel. Brent rose above $74.

An indicator measuring WTI's 10-day volatility fell to its lowest level since July.

Israeli air strikes on targets allegedly controlled by the Houthis in Yemen, including power plants, ports, and the capital's airport. The actions of the Houthis have been threatening shipping in the Red Sea, forcing oil tankers to take longer routes through Africa.

According to data from the US Energy Information Administration (EIA), US crude oil inventories fell by 4.2 million barrels last week, and crude oil processing volume at the Gulf of Mexico refinery hit a five-year high.

WTI's recent contract has a premium of more than 40 cents over the far-monthly contract, which indicates that supply will be tight in the short term.

WTI futures for February delivery in the New York market rose 1.4%, and the settlement price was $70.60 per barrel.

The settlement price of Brent crude oil for February delivery rose 1.2% to 74.17 US dollars per barrel.
