This afternoon, Postal Savings Bank of China announced that, following a resolution by the Board of Directors, Zheng Guoyu was elected as the Chairman of the Bank of China Postal Savings, with his qualification to be effective upon approval from the National Financial Regulatory Administration.
Postal Savings Bank of China pointed out in the announcement that the bank's Board of Directors issued a written meeting notice on December 27, 2024, and held a meeting in Peking on January 2, 2025. The meeting was to have 14 directors present, with all 14 directors attending in person, along with some supervisors and senior management personnel attending the meeting. The Board of Directors consented to nominate Zheng Guoyu as a candidate for non-executive director and elected Zheng Guoyu as the Chairman of Postal Savings Bank of China.
Postal Savings Bank of China also stated that Zheng Guoyu's qualification as Chairman of the bank will be effective after being elected as a non-executive director by the shareholders' meeting and subsequently approved by the National Financial Regulatory Administration for his directorship and chairmanship. The term of office is three years, starting from the date of approval by the National Financial Regulatory Administration. According to the provisions of the Articles of Association, after becoming Chairman of Postal Savings Bank of China, Zheng Guoyu will also serve as a member and chairman of the bank's Board of Directors' Strategic Planning Committee and the statutory representative.
Today, according to official information from the Postal Savings Bank, Zheng Guoyu, male, born in 1967, holds a master's degree in business administration from Huazhong University of Science and Technology and is a senior economist. He has previously held positions as Assistant President and Deputy President of the Hubei Provincial Branch of the Bank Of China, President of the Shanxi Provincial Branch, President of the Sichuan Provincial Branch, Member of the Executive Committee and Deputy President of the Bank Of China, and Executive Director and Deputy President of the Industrial And Commercial Bank Of China. He is currently a Director, General Manager, and Chief Compliance Officer of China Postal Group Co., Ltd.
Reporters from the Financial Association noted that according to past practices, the Chairman of the Postal Savings Bank is generally held by a leader from the Postal Group. In addition, former Chairman Zhang Jinliang resigned in April 2022 and became the President of China Construction Bank in May of the same year (later assumed the Chairmanship). Since then, the President Liu Jianjun has acted as Chairman of the Postal Savings Bank for over two years.
