According to Zhituo Finance, the number of initial jobless claims in the USA for the week ending December 28 was 0.211 million, expected to be 0.222 million, and the previous value was revised from 0.219 million to 0.220 million. The number of continuing jobless claims in the USA for the week ending December 21 was 1.844 million, expected to be 1.890 million, and the previous value was revised from 1.910 million to 1.896 million. The initial jobless claims have dropped to an eight-month low, and continuing jobless claims have also decreased to a three-month low, reflecting a relatively small level of layoffs in the USA labor market, which still maintains surprising resilience.

Currently, the number of initial jobless claims is low—consistent with pre-pandemic levels—aligning with broad employment market data, indicating that USA companies are generally unwilling to lay off workers. Recently, Federal Reserve Chairman Powell described the USA labor market as being in a "solid shape." The spike in the unemployment rate last summer raised alarms, prompting policymakers to cut interest rates by 50 basis points in September to help support the employment market.

Recent data shows that the USA employment market is slowing down, but overall remains stable. After policymakers implemented the third interest rate cut within three months, Powell stated at a mid-December press conference that the economy is cooling but does not raise concern.

Weekly unemployment claims data tends to fluctuate, especially during holiday periods. For the week ending December 28, the four-week average of initial jobless claims in the USA was 0.22325 million, with the previous value revised from 0.2265 million to 0.22675 million. The four-week average of initial jobless claims is an indicator that helps to eliminate volatility.

Before adjusting for seasonal factors, the number of initial jobless claims has increased. The largest increases were in Michigan, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania, while the largest decreases were in Texas and California.
