This is part of the adjustment made under stricter rules that came into effect on January 1 of this year. The new regulations also caused some other electric vehicles to no longer qualify for federal subsidies in the USA. Currently, there are 18 electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids that qualify for tax credits, a decrease of 4 models compared to last year.

$Tesla (TSLA.US)$ This year's Cybertruck is eligible for a maximum tax credit of 7,500 USD as part of a reassessment under stricter rules that took effect on January 1st of this year.

The new regulations simultaneously caused some Other electric vehicles to lose their eligibility for federal subsidies in the USA. According to the US Department of Energy and the Environmental Protection Agency, currently there are 18 electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids that qualify for the tax credit, a decrease of 4 from last year's 22.

The reclassification of tax credits is part of President Biden's Inflation Reduction Act, which tightened domestic sourcing requirements for Battery components and the raw materials needed for their manufacturing.

The decrease in the number of electric vehicles eligible for tax credits coincides with a general weakening in demand for the electric vehicle market, while the incoming President Trump, who will take office later this month, threatens to end the federal subsidy program.

In addition to the Cybertruck, Tesla has three other vehicles that qualify for the tax credit. The remaining electric vehicles eligible for federal subsidies in the USA come from nine other brands, including the Hyundai Motor Company's Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 9, which are qualifying for the first time, as well as Kia's sister brands, the EV6 and EV9.

New car buyers also need to face income and vehicle price restrictions, which could affect subsidy eligibility.

Volkswagen's ID.4 crossover has completely lost the $7,500 tax credit. Additionally, several vehicles from Ford, Nissan, Rivian, Stellantis, and Volkswagen, which were originally eligible for a maximum tax credit of $3,750, no longer qualify.

In addition, overnight Tesla announced the year-end sprint results, with fourth-quarter Auto deliveries reaching 496,000 units, setting a new season high, but still below market expectations. Meanwhile, the total Auto deliveries for 2024 are projected at 1.79 million units, which not only fell short of the Analyst's expectations but also marked the first annual sales decline in ten years. As of October 2024, the number of Tesla owners in the Global market has exceeded 7 million. Following the announcement, the stock price fell more than 6%.
