  • Tesla China sold 93,766 cars in December, including exports, up 18.91 percent from November.
  • In the fourth quarter, Tesla China's sales including exports were about 240,900, contributing about 49 percent of the EV maker's global deliveries.

Tesla's (NASDAQ: TSLA) China-made vehicles sold last month grew further as it pushed sales at the end of the year.

Tesla China sold 93,766 vehicles in December, including those sold in China and those exported to overseas markets, according to data released today by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA).

This is the third-highest monthly sales in Tesla's China history, up 18.91 percent from November's 78,856, though down 0.40 percent from 94,139 in the same month last year.

Tesla has a factory in Shanghai that produces the Model 3 sedan and Model Y crossover, both for deliveries to local customers and as an export hub for it.

Tesla China's previous two monthly sales highs were 100,291 units in November 2022 and 94,139 in December 2023, respectively.

The CPCA didn't mention Tesla's local sales in China or exports in November, but the EV maker said yesterday that it sold a record number of about 83,000 vehicles in China in December, up 12.8 percent from November.

For the full year 2024, Tesla sold about 657,000 units locally in China, up 8.8 percent from a year earlier and an all-time high, it said yesterday.

A simple calculation by CnEVPost based on the growth rate mentioned by Tesla shows that Tesla sold about 82,896 units in China in December. For the company, its retail sales in China are deliveries.

That means Tesla China exported about 10,870 vehicles in December, up 103 percent from 5,366 in November but down 41 percent from 18,334 in the same month last year.

More precise figures for Tesla's China sales and exports are expected to be available next week.

In the fourth quarter, Tesla China's sales including exports were about 240,900, contributing about 49 percent of the EV maker's 495,570 global quarterly deliveries.

In China, Tesla sold about 196,900 vehicles in the fourth quarter, contributing 40 percent of global deliveries, CnEVPost calculations show.
