Markets Close Higher, S&P 500 And Nasdaq Snap Losing Streaks

Stocks closed higher on Friday, with the S&P 500 and Nasdaq ending their five-day losing streaks.

At 4:01 p.m. ET, the $Dow Jones Industrial Average (.DJI.US)$ preliminarily closed up 339.86 (0.80%). The $S&P 500 Index (.SPX.US)$ ended higher, up 73.93 (1.26%) and the $Nasdaq Composite Index (.IXIC.US)$ led for the day, up 340.88 (1.77%).

For the week, stocks will likely close down and there will be no Santa Claus rally this year.

$Microsoft (MSFT.US)$ announced that in the 2025 fiscal year, it would spend $80 million on AI-enabled data centers. Shares were up 1.08% in late afternoon trading.

Along with tech stocks having a good day, the same could be said for energy stocks. $Constellation Energy (CEG.US)$ was up 4% and  $Vistra Energy (VST.US)$ shares rose 8%.
