AST SpaceMobile Insiders Sold US$3.2m Of Shares Suggesting Hesitancy

Simply Wall St ·  Jan 6 09:42

The fact that multiple AST SpaceMobile, Inc. (NASDAQ:ASTS) insiders offloaded a considerable amount of shares over the past year could have raised some eyebrows amongst investors. Knowing whether insiders are buying is usually more helpful when evaluating insider transactions, as insider selling can have various explanations. However, shareholders should take a deeper look if several insiders are selling stock over a specific time period.

While insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing, logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At AST SpaceMobile

The EVP & COO, Shanti Gupta, made the biggest insider sale in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for US$2.1m worth of shares at a price of US$25.83 each. So we know that an insider sold shares at around the present share price of US$23.97. While we don't usually like to see insider selling, it's more concerning if the sales take place at a lower price. Given that the sale took place at around current prices, it makes us a little cautious but is hardly a major concern.

Over the last year we saw more insider selling of AST SpaceMobile shares, than buying. You can see a visual depiction of insider transactions (by companies and individuals) over the last 12 months, below. Does AST SpaceMobile Boast High Insider Ownership?

For a common shareholder, it is worth checking how many shares are held by company insiders. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. Insiders own 0.3% of AST SpaceMobile shares, worth about US$23m. We've certainly seen higher levels of insider ownership elsewhere, but these holdings are enough to suggest alignment between insiders and the other shareholders.
