Moomoo News ·  Jan 7 05:10

Markets closed mixed Monday after ending last week in the negative zone.

At 4:01 p.m. ET, the $Dow Jones Industrial Average (.DJI.US)$ preliminarily closed  down 25.44 (0.06%). The $S&P 500 Index (.SPX.US)$ closed up 32.97 (0.55%), with the $Nasdaq Composite Index (.IXIC.US)$ leading the way, up 243.30 (1.24%).

Market sentiment was also higher Monday after a Washington Post story noted President-elect Donald Trump’s tariff plan would cover critical imports, making it narrower than expected.

For the third week, it will be a shortened one with markets closed on Thursday for a national day of mourning for former President Carter. But before then, some key happenings will include a keynote address from Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang at CES on Monday at 9 p.m. ET. On Wednesday, December Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting minutes will be released; many Fed representatives also have scheduled remarks.
