Meta announced on Monday that its Board of Directors will welcome three new members, including UFC CEO Dana White, a close friend of President-elect Trump from the USA; Meta has been preparing for Trump's second term.
On January 7, the Financial Associated Press reported (editor Bian Chun) that Facebook's parent company, Meta, announced on Monday that its Board of Directors will welcome three new members, including UFC CEO Dana White, a close friend of President-elect Trump.
The other two new Board members are well-known investors, former Microsoft executive Charlie Songhurst and John Elkann, CEO of Exor, one of Europe's largest investment firms owned by the Agnelli family.
After the new members join, the Meta Board of Directors will expand from 10 directors to 13, including Zuckerberg, who serves as chairman.
"We have tremendous opportunities in the future of AI, wearables, and Social Media, and our Board of Directors will help us achieve our vision," Zuckerberg wrote in a Facebook post announcing the new members. He pointed out that the new members will bring in-depth expertise and perspectives to Meta.
White is an old friend of Trump. He spoke in support of Trump at the Republican National Convention last July and appeared in Trump's first TikTok video. At the election night event, White also took the stage with Trump to express gratitude to his supporters.
Meanwhile, as a mixed martial arts enthusiast and amateur boxer, Zuckerberg has also developed a good relationship with White in recent years.
In an early public interaction, Zuckerberg thanked White on Instagram in 2022 for inviting him to a UFC match, while the UFC shared a photo online of the two hugging in front of the 'Octagon' at the event.
Meta has been preparing for Trump's second term. Last week, the company promoted prominent Republican Joel Kaplan, former Deputy Chief of Staff at the White House, to Chief Global Affairs Officer. Meta also donated 1 million USD to Trump's inauguration Fund. In late November last year, Zuckerberg had dinner with Trump at Mar-a-Lago.
As Trump is about to take office, Silicon Valley giants are increasingly courting him. Trump has long accused technology platforms, including Meta, of having anti-conservative bias and has vowed to crack down on large technology platforms.
