Along with last week's insurance registration numbers, Li Auto (NASDAQ: LI) today shared registrations for major brands in China for the full year 2024, revealing some interesting information.
For the full year 2024, Nio (NYSE: NIO) had 205,300 insurance registrations in China, ranking No. 5 among new car-making brands, according to a list shared by Li Auto.
For the full year 2024, Nio delivered 221,970 vehicles, up 38.70 percent year-on-year, according to data it released earlier this month.
It's worth noting that there may be a discrepancy between insurance registrations and deliveries or sales figures published by carmakers, due to different statistical methods and the exclusion of overseas deliveries in insurance registrations.
Li Auto came in first on the list of new car makers it shared, with 504,500 insurance registrations for the whole of 2024.
The company delivered 500,508 vehicles in 2024, up 33.10 percent year-on-year.
Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) ranked No. 7 on Li Auto's list with 171,100 insurance registrations in China in 2024.
Li Auto has yet to enter overseas markets through official channels, while both Nio and Xpeng are delivering vehicles in overseas markets.
Xiaomi (HKG: 1810, OTCMKTS: XIACY) has 136,800 vehicle insurance registrations in China in 2024, ranking No. 8 on the list of new car-making forces.
Leapmotor (HKG: 9863) ranked No. 3 with 271,900 units, while Zeekr (NYSE: ZK) was No. 4 with 212,000 units among the new carmakers.
Among premium brands, Mercedes-Benz was No. 1 with 713,900 insurance registrations in China in 2024.
BMW was second with 696,200, Audi was third with 660,800 and Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) was fourth with 659,400.
Tesla released figures last week showing it sold a record of about 83,000 units in China in December and about 657,000 units for the full year of 2024.
Li Auto was No. 5 on the list of premium brands, with Zeekr at No. 7 and Nio at No. 8.
In terms of new energy vehicle (NEV) insurance registrations rankings, BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) was No. 1 with 3,492,900 units.
BYD released figures last week showing it had NEV sales of 4,272,145 units in 2024, up 41.26 percent year-on-year. This includes passenger cars and commercial vehicles, as well as the group's various sub-brands.
Tesla came second in the NEV rankings, with Li Auto in fourth place and Zeekr in ninth.
