Microsoft (MSFT.US) CEO Nadella said on Tuesday that Microsoft will invest about 3 billion US dollars to expand the capacity of its artificial intelligence and Azure cloud computing services in India.
The Zhitong Finance App learned that Microsoft (MSFT.US) CEO Nadella said on Tuesday that Microsoft will invest about 3 billion US dollars to expand the capacity of its artificial intelligence and Azure cloud computing services in India.
The tech giant is the latest company to commit to investing in India. India is seen as a key growth market for US technology companies because it has a population of over 1.4 billion and the cost of internet access is low.
In recent months, executives such as Nvidia CEO Wong In-hoon and Meta's chief artificial intelligence scientist Jan Lecoun have all visited India.
Nadra said at a conference in the southern Indian city of Bengaluru that the $3 billion investment in India would be India's “biggest single expansion.” He said Microsoft will also train 10 million AI personnel in India by 2030.
Nadella announced during her visit to India early last year that by 2025, the company will provide AI skills training opportunities for 2 million people in India, with a focus on training individuals in small cities and rural areas.
Nadella met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday. The two discussed “technology, innovation, and artificial intelligence” and “Microsoft's ambitious expansion and investment plans in India.”
Microsoft has invested billions of dollars to expand capacity globally to boost artificial intelligence infrastructure and data center networks.
The company last week announced plans to invest around $80 billion in fiscal year 2025.
More than half of this investment will be in the US and will focus on developing data centers to train artificial intelligence models and deploy artificial intelligence and cloud-based applications.
