Anthropic is currently in the final stages of financing negotiations and plans to raise up to $2 billion
The Zhitong Finance App learned that Anthropic, an artificial intelligence startup founded by a former OpenAI research executive, is currently in the final stages of financing negotiations. It plans to raise up to 2 billion US dollars, and the company's valuation will reach 60 billion US dollars. According to foreign media confirmation, this round of financing was led by Lightspeed Venture Partners.
Anthropic has garnered much attention for the success of its AI chatbot Claude. Like OpenAI's ChatGPT and Google's Gemini, Claude has set off a boom in the field of generative AI and is widely used in business functions such as sales, marketing, and customer service.
Currently, Anthropic, OpenAI, and tech giants such as Google (GOOGL.US, GOOG.US), Amazon (AMZN.US), Microsoft (MSFT.US), and Meta (META.US) are fiercely competing in the field of generative AI. Market analysis predicts that in the next ten years, the revenue of the generative AI market will exceed $1 trillion. As a major investor in OpenAI, Microsoft is investing heavily with Amazon in generative AI startups while developing its own technology.
According to people familiar with the matter, Anthropic's annual revenue is about 0.875 billion US dollars, mainly from corporate sales. Lightspeed, as an existing investor in Anthropic, did not comment on the details of this round of financing.
In November of this year, Amazon announced an additional investment of 0.4 billion US dollars in Anthropic, bringing the total investment amount to 8 billion US dollars. Amazon is a significant investor in Anthropic, but it has not received a seat on the board of directors. Additionally, Google promised to invest $2 billion in Anthropic last year and has confirmed a 10% stake in the startup, while the two sides signed a large-scale cloud service contract.
At the same time as the latest round of investment announcements, Amazon's cloud computing division became Anthropic's “main cloud service and training partner.” In the future, Anthropic will use Amazon's Trainium and Inferentia chips to train and deploy its largest AI models.
Last year, Anthropic significantly accelerated the pace of technology development. In October, the company said its AI agents are capable of using computers to complete complex tasks like humans. This “computer literacy” technology allows AI to interpret content on a computer screen, select buttons, enter text, browse websites, and perform tasks through any software and real-time internet.
Anthropic Chief Scientific Officer Jared Kaplan said the tool can “use computers in almost the same way as humans” and complete tasks “tens or even hundreds of steps.” In an interview with foreign media, he revealed that OpenAI is also planning to launch similar features.
In September, Anthropic launched its biggest new enterprise-grade product since Claude, Claude Enterprise, designed for businesses looking to integrate AI technology. Additionally, earlier this year, Anthropic released its more powerful AI model, Claude 3.5 Sonnet, which provides higher performance technical support for AI applications.
