Openreach Taps Nokia For UK Fiber Expansion: Details

Benzinga ·  Jan 9 23:14

On Thursday, Nokia Corporation (NYSE:NOK) disclosed that Openreach has selected its One Network Platform to build an open-access fiber network across the U.K.

Nokia's solution is projected to enable Openreach to build a large-scale, multi-service network with lower power and space requirements. The architecture supports various deployment models, ensuring providers can seamlessly connect users to Openreach's fiber network.

Notably, Openreach's broadband network connects users to around 300 providers, offering high-speed fiber services in cities, towns, villages, and remote areas across the U.K.

Nokia's One Network Platform helps meet the growing demand by offering flexibility and scale, while reducing the number of exchange buildings needed.

Built using Nokia's One Network Platform, the network will enable Openreach to achieve its goal of connecting 25 million premises by the close of 2026, addressing the growing demand for high-speed broadband.

Using Nokia's Altiplano and NSP network controllers, Openreach can automate fiber connectivity and simplify operations with a unified service interface and reduces OSS complexity by 85%, while providing real-time telemetry for better network performance insights.

Last week, Nokia, along with Intuitive Machines, Inc., successfully integrated the Lunar Surface Communication System into the IM-2 mission lander, Athena.

Investors can gain exposure to NOK stock via iShares U.S. Digital Infrastructure and Real Estate ETF (NYSE:IDGT) and First Trust Indxx NextG ETF (NASDAQ:NXTG).

Price Action: NOK shares closed higher by 0.65% at $4.66 on Wednesday.
