Globus Medical Insider Lowered Holding By 100% During Last Year

Simply Wall St ·  Jan 9 23:33

Looking at Globus Medical, Inc.'s (NYSE:GMED ) insider transactions over the last year, we can see that insiders were net sellers. That is, there were more number of shares sold by insiders than there were purchased.

While we would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing, logic dictates you should pay some attention to whether insiders are buying or selling shares.

Globus Medical Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

In the last twelve months, the biggest single sale by an insider was when the Independent Director, Daniel Lemaitre, sold US$698k worth of shares at a price of US$64.61 per share. That means that even when the share price was below the current price of US$86.55, an insider wanted to cash in some shares. As a general rule we consider it to be discouraging when insiders are selling below the current price, because it suggests they were happy with a lower valuation. Please do note, however, that sellers may have a variety of reasons for selling, so we don't know for sure what they think of the stock price. We note that the biggest single sale was 100% of Daniel Lemaitre's holding. The only individual insider seller over the last year was Daniel Lemaitre.

Insider Ownership

For a common shareholder, it is worth checking how many shares are held by company insiders. We usually like to see fairly high levels of insider ownership. Globus Medical insiders own about US$1.9b worth of shares (which is 17% of the company). I like to see this level of insider ownership, because it increases the chances that management are thinking about the best interests of shareholders.
