Dow Jumps Over 100 Points; Tesla Earnings Miss Views

U.S. stocks traded higher this morning, with the Dow Jones gaining more than 100 points on Thursday.

The Dow traded up 0.26% to 44,829.59 while the NASDAQ gained 0.75% to 19,779.27. The S&P 500 also rose, gaining, 0.63% to 6,077.45.

Leading and Lagging Sectors
Communication services shares surged by 2.4% on Thursday.

In trading on Thursday, information technology shares fell by 0.1%.

Top Headline

Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA) reported weaker-than-expected fourth-quarter earnings and sales results.

The company, meanwhile, said it expects its vehicle business to return to growth in 2025. Tesla also promised to launch new and "more affordable" models in the first half of 2025, in addition to other promises regarding the deployment of autonomous vehicles and licensing of the company's full self-driving (FSD) driver assistance software to rivals.

Equities Trading UP

  • Alpha Modus Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMOD) shares shot up 205% to $4.6902. Alpha Modus CEO addressed market volatility and its recent SPAC merger.
  • Shares of Tectonic Therapeutic, Inc. (NASDAQ:TECX)got a boost, surging 108% to $53.27 after interim results showed TX45 achieved improvements in hemodynamics that met and exceeded prespecified objectives.
  • Alterity Therapeutics Limited (NASDAQ:ATHE) shares were also up, gaining 71% to $5.11 after the company reported topline results from its Phase 2 clinical trial of ATH434 in early-stage multiple system atrophy, showing clinically meaningful benefits at both doses studied.

Equities Trading DOWN

  • China Liberal Education Holdings Limited (NASDAQ:CLEU) shares dropped 91% to $0.69.
  • Shares of CARGO Therapeutics, Inc. (NASDAQ:CRGX) were down 77% to $3.10 after the company announced it discontinued its FIRCE-1 Phase 2 study. Around firm firms downgraded the stock also.
  • Silexion Therapeutics Corp (NASDAQ:SLXN) was down, falling 37% to $1.9808. Silexion Therapeutics announced exercise of warrants for $3.3 million gross proceeds.

Commodities
In commodity news, oil traded up 0.6% to $73.02 while gold traded up 1.4% at $2,831.80.

Silver traded up 3.8% to $32.580 on Thursday, while copper rose 0.9% to $4.3225.

Euro zone

European shares were higher today. The eurozone's STOXX 600 rose 0.6%, Germany's DAX 40 gained 0.2% and France's CAC 40 climbed 0.7%. Spain's IBEX 35 Index rose 0.8%, while London's FTSE 100 rose 0.6%.

Asia Pacific Markets

Asian markets closed higher on Thursday, with Japan's Nikkei 225 gaining 0.25% and India's BSE Sensex gaining 0.30%.

Economics

  • U.S. initial jobless claims fell by 16,000 from the previous week to 207,000 in the week ending January 25, compared to market estimates of 220,000.
  • The U.S. economy expanded at an annualized rate of 2.3% in the fourth quarter, down from 3.1% in the previous quarter and versus market estimates of 2.6%.
