According to a new report by (Institute for Policy Studies) of the Policy Institute, a left-wing think-tank, the wealth of the richest households in the United States is growing much faster than the average American family, to be exact, 10 times faster.

The survey found that by the end of 2020, the 50 richest families in the United States had combined assets of $1.2 trillion. At the same time, the total wealth of about 65 million families at the bottom of the United States is $2.5 trillion.

The report examines the top 50 families in the first ranking of the richest families in the United States, released by Forbes in December 2020, as well as data from the Fed's consumer finance survey.

According to the report, the total wealth of the 27 families that appeared on both the (billion dollar dynasties) and the Forbes 1 billion rich list in 1983 has risen by 1007% since then, from $80.2 billion to $903.2 billion, adjusted for inflation.

This contrasts sharply with the wealth growth of typical American households between 1989 and 2019 (the most recent year on record), which grew by just 93 per cent in inflation-adjusted dollars.

Wealth is more concentrated at the top. Since 1983, the wealth of the five richest families in the United States-the Walton family, the Koch family, the Mars family, the Cargill-Macmillan family and the Lauder family-has increased by 2484%.

During the pandemic, many of these families' wealth increased exponentially, while the bottom half continued to struggle.

This is evidence of a "K-shaped" recovery in the United States, where high-income Americans find jobs and earn more, while low-income Americans lose their jobs, struggle to pay their bills and fall into poverty.
