Italian Prime Minister Draghi said policy makers should be satisfied with returning economic growth to pre-COVID-19 levels, adding that even this smaller goal would require more stimulus.
"our goal must be to get economic activity back at least on the pre-epidemic track," the former ECB president said in a speech in Barcelona on Friday. "without extra efforts, we will not be able to achieve this goal. Therefore, we must act quickly and effectively. "
Mr Draghi said the government should now focus on supporting demand after protecting companies from bankruptcy and workers from unemployment.
"We should aim to surpass the pre-epidemic growth trajectory," he said.
