General Motors is recalling some 2015 and 2016 Chevrolet Solodes and GMC Sierra1500, 2500 and 3500 trucks, totaling 410019 vehicles, due to safety concerns in the side airbags, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said on July 9.
According to NHTSA, the side airbag inflator of the recalled truck could burst without warning and "spray" parts into the cab. It is reported that three 2015 Solod airbag inflators broke last month, one in Florida and two in Texas.
According to General Motors, manufacturing defects force gas from the manufacturing process into the inflator, causing corrosion and possible rupture. After these vehicles are recalled, dealers will replace airbag modules on both sides to address safety concerns. It is reported that about 9000 trucks were recalled last year because of the same problem. (CCTV reporter Xu Xun)
