"if we don't start producing more semiconductors in the United States, there will be national security risks and obviously economic risks," said U.S. Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo.
The Biden administration has proposed $52 billion in research and development funding for semiconductors, a move supported by both parties in Congress.
"if there's one thing that keeps me awake at night, it's the possibility that the bill won't be passed by Congress, or not fast enough," Raimondo said at a summit hosted by the National artificial Intelligence Council.
