So far this year, 35128 mergers and acquisitions have been announced, up 24 per cent from last year.
Mergers and acquisitions in the US alone totaled $2.14 trillion this year, while those in Europe and the Asia-Pacific region totaled $657 billion and $620 billion, respectively.
Matthew Barbieri, a partner at Wiss & Company, said the imminent increase in taxes on capital transactions has boosted M & An activity in the US. "as a seller, you will be faced with the fact that if you wait for the new tax law to be passed, if it is really passed in the way it is now, your net transaction value will be hit by about 20 per cent," he said. "
By industry, mergers and acquisitions in the technology industry have reached $799 billion this year and continue to take the lead. Mergers and acquisitions in the financial services sector reached $442 billion, while mergers and acquisitions in the industrial sector reached $438 billion.
In addition, mergers and acquisitions by special purpose acquisitions (SPAC) reached a record $495 billion.
