Detailed results of the 2020 census released by the United States on Thursday local time show a sharp change in the demographic structure of the United States, a decline in the proportion of whites and a further increase in ethnic diversity.

The detailed results of America's once-in-a-decade 2020 census show that the proportion of whites in the US population has fallen to less than 60 per cent for the first time, with more than 40 per cent of people thinking they are multi-racial or colored. Specifically, the white population of the United States fell from 223.6 million in 2010 to 204.3 million in 2020, a decline of 8.6 per cent in a decade. Over the past decade, the US population has grown by just 7.4 per cent, the lowest level since the 1930s. The adult population in the United States is growing faster than the overall population, and the number of people under the age of 18 has declined.

Detailed census results show that people of color account for more than half of the population under the age of 18 in the United States, rising to 52.7%.
