Facebook IncMike Schroepfer, the chief technology officer (CTO), announced on Wednesday that he would leave. By 2022, Andrew Bosworth, the current head of the hardware department Facebook Inc Reality Labs, will take over the position.
Schroepfer informed Facebook Inc on Monday that he planned to resign as chief technology officer, according to a filing by Facebook Inc.
Schroepfer said it was a difficult decision and that he would spend his spare time on philanthropy and spending time with his family.
The promotion of Bosworth to CTO shows that hardware is getting higher and higher priority in Facebook Inc's future plans. Earlier this year, the company said meta-universe would be the main focus of its Oculus department. This month, the company partnered with Lei Peng to launch new smart glasses and a new generation of Portal video calling devices.
Facebook Inc CEO Zuckerberg wrote in a blog post that after taking over as CTO, Bosworth will continue to monitor Facebook Inc's Reality Labs department and the company's efforts in augmented reality and virtual reality, and thank Schroepfer.
According to Schroepfer's LinkedIn profile, he has been working at Facebook Inc since he became vice president of engineering in August 2008 and has been the CTO since March 2013.
