JPMorgan Chase & CoJamie Dimon, chief executive, told a conference on Monday that cryptocurrencies would be regulated by the government and that he personally considered Bitcoin "worthless".
"No matter what other people think, the government will regulate it. They will regulate it for anti-money laundering purposes, bank secrecy laws and taxes, "Mr Dimon said.
Dimon has been an outspoken critic of digital currency. He made the remark that "Bitcoin is a hoax", but later expressed regret over the remark.
This summer, JPMorgan Chase & Co launched a cryptocurrency fund for high net worth clients, which means that the bank's financial advisers can accept orders for customers to buy and sell five cryptocurrency products.
Mr Dimon said his views were different from those of the bank and its board and that he remained sceptical.
"personally, I don't think bitcoin is worthless," Dimon said. "I don't think people should smoke either."
"our clients are adults. They disagree (the idea that bitcoin is worthless). If they want to buy or sell Bitcoin-we can't keep it-but we can give them legal and clean access. "
Bitcoin transactions did not immediately respond to Dimon's comments. The cryptocurrency is currently about $57400.
