Private investment in aerospace companies reached $3.9 billion in the third quarter, pushing it to a new annual record of $10.3 billion this year, according to a report released this week by Space Capital.
"the quarter set a new record for annual space infrastructure investment, surpassing the $9.8 billion in 2020," Chad Anderson, managing partner of Space Capital, wrote in a report.
Space Capital's quarterly report divides aerospace investment into three technology categories: infrastructure, distribution and applications. Infrastructure includes companies that are often seen as aerospace companies, such as those that make rockets and satellites.
Aerospace companies that completed the merger and listing of SPAC accounted for a large portion of the funds raised in the third quarter. The two biggest deals of the season were ORBC.OMM raised $1.1 billion for privatization and $550 million for OneWeb, a satellite broadband company.
