10baggerbamm OP Ginvest : I really have no love lost for chickens. they're really stupid birds they're not like a crow a crows very smart. that being said one day I decided out of the blue oh yeah I'm just going to get some chickens it'll be fun to watch them in the backyard. I placed an ad online they said if you're tired of your old birds if they're not laying eggs and you want to get rid of them bring them by this address drop them off over the fence they're not going to be eating they're just going to be for pets and keeping the yard clean of ticks which chickens are actually really good at delete all those little ticks and spiders by the way.
within a few days I had 23 hens dropped off and two roosters.
so now out of nowhere I went from zero birds to over two dozen and I got to figure out what the hell am I going to do with these birds I just figured I was going to get a few...
I built a chicken coop out of an old dog house that was sitting fenced it off so that they could go in at night.. and am I surprised these stupid birds would roost on the fence line they wouldn't go into what was their home that I built for them. the foxes and the coyotes were picking them off at night like fast food it would just run by the fence grab and go whatever bird they wanted to eat.
my dog's tolerated them but every once in awhile one would piss off one of my boys and that's it.. all she wrote.. you just saw feathers flying in the air and the dog's face covered with feathers.
over the next year and a half the flock began to dwindle out of their own stupidity of roosting on the fence line and a few of them crossing paths with my dogs and wouldn't leave them alone they kept pecking them and they're very tolerant to an extent and then no more bird.. my dogs would eat them from beak to butt.
the last of the hands was on the Ridgeline of my house I guess it figured that was the safest place to roost. I was mowing the lawn outside and I saw a bald eagle swoop down ...nailed it
bye bye Birdie... and I'm not talking about the musical either.
