The company is the only listed electric power company in Guizhou Province, and one of the seven listed companies controlled by China Huadian Group Co., Ltd. The company was founded on October 12, 1993, and listed on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange as the first stock to be quoted on March 3, 2005. In August 2005, the State Council's State-owned Assets Administration Commission approved the transfer of all shares held by Guizhou Electric Power Investment Company to China Huadian Group Corporation, and the group company became the largest shareholder and actual controller of “Qianyuan Electric Power”. The company's main business is the development, construction and operation management of hydroelectric power plants.
