According to an announcement, Standard Chartered Bank (Hong Kong), Animoca Brands, and Hong Kong Telecommunications have agreed to establish a joint venture to issue a Hong Kong dollar-backed stablecoin. They plan to apply for a license from the Hong Kong Monetary Authority under the new regulatory regime. Standard Chartered, Animoca Brands, and Hong Kong Telecommunications have jointly participated in the stablecoin issuer sandbox program launched by the Monetary Authority in July 2024.
