Seria: Amended Securities Report - 37th period (April 1, 2023 - March 31, 2024)
Three points to watch out for in next week's market: U.S. PCE deflator, U.S. consumer confidence index, and European Summit.
Stock market outlook forecast range: upper limit of 38,800 yen to lower limit of 37,800 yen. The U.S. stock market was mixed this weekend. The Dow Jones Industrial Average ended the trading day at 39,150.33, up 15.57 points (+0.04%) compared to the previous day. The Nasdaq index closed at 17,689.36, down 32.23 points (-0.18%), and the S&P 500 closed at 5,464.62, down 8.55 points (-0.16%). The night session of the Tokyo Stock Exchange saw the Nikkei 225 futures close at 38,490 yen, 110 yen lower than the regular trading closing price.
Outlook for domestic stock market: Will the consolidation phase continue at the 38,500 yen level with no active selling?
Amidst sluggish business, this week's Nikkei average fell to 38,596.47 yen, down 218.09 yen (-0.56%) for the week as it remained capped by the 25-day line. At the beginning of the week, the Nikkei average plunged sharply, mostly due to concerns of the far-right political party's advances in the upcoming French parliamentary elections from late June to early July and political instability in Europe. A wide range of stocks, including high-tech stocks, fell, causing the Nikkei average to experience a severe drop, plunging to the 37,000 yen range. Later on, as the political instability in Europe subsided, the Nikkei average slowly regained stability.
