The company began construction in October 1986, officially opened to traffic in October 1990, and was approved by the state as a first-class open commercial port in December of the same year. In 1993, the company underwent a shareholding system reform, and it became the first port in China where domestic enterprises operated separately under the joint stock system. The company's main business is to provide port handling and storage services for containers, oil and chemicals, food, metal ores and steel and other goods; to provide customers with shipside and port support services such as freight forwarding, shipping agency, integrated transportation, tugboat, cargo handling, weighing, and berthing; and providing port support services such as water supply and electricity supply. Customers are charged port charter fees, warehouse usage fees, parking fees, tugboat fees, port fees, ship supply service fees and other service fees.
