The company was founded in 1996 and is the earliest local state-owned joint-stock commercial bank established in the western region and the upper reaches of the Yangtze River. According to the “Three Meals of Lobster” development strategy formulated by the municipal government, it was successfully listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange on November 6, 2013, making it the first mainland commercial bank to successfully list on the main board of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange among urban commercial banks in the country. On February 5, 2021, it successfully landed on the main board of the Shanghai Stock Exchange and became the first “A+H” listed commercial bank in the western region.
