Alibaba Cloud & Others Establish 'Logistics Intelligence Alliance'

The Logistics Intelligence Alliance, the first alliance in the logistics industry on the mainland to focus on the research and practice of foundation model applications, was established yesterday (7 Mar) in Hangzhou.

Just a few observations from $BABA $JD 1Q23 results:

Both posted similar declines (~3%) in China retail biz. This can be attributed to a slow pickup post-pandemic measures. This is disappointing in the sense that online retail sales in China grew 8.6% in 1Q23. An explanation is weak sales by 3rd party sellers + unpaid orders not yet booked. Important to note that March was better, while Apr/May surge is real. The market seems to have ignored this.

Alibaba-backed self-driving startup DeepRoute.ai is making deliveries for courier Deppon

Deppon, a Chinese courier company backed by e-commerce heavyweight JD.com, has had autonomous vehicle startup DeepRoute.ai hauling cargo for it on several routes in Shenzhen as part of a newly publicized partnership between the two companies. The company claimed that 100% of shipments have been delivered on time.
