Reasons why the US military has no choice but to "ride along" with commercial ships.
It has been reported that US military combat units need assistance with trucking. Since the end of last year, briefings regarding combat operations in the Red Sea have been held here every two weeks, attended by executives from civilian marine shipping companies. The aircraft and cargo ships of the US Transportation Command are aging and their capabilities are insufficient. Of the 44 government-owned vehicle transport ships available to the Transportation Command, 28 are set to retire within eight years, and the deployment of replacement vessels seems to have faced multiple delays.

Positioning the conservation of marine environment and biodiversity as important issues, our company promotes the achievement of the 2030 Biodiversity Framework Japan Conference (Note 1) on October 29. Also, on November 13, we joined the "30by30 Alliance for Biodiversity (Note 3)" initiated by 17 groups of industry, government, and academia, including the Ministry of the Environment. The 15th Conference of the Parties to the Biodiversity Convention in December 2022.

The company has obtained certification based on the "Aichi Biodiversity Corporate Certification System," established by Aichi Prefecture to promote biodiversity conservation initiatives by businesses. Since 2023, the company has participated in donations and volunteer activities aimed at supporting the restoration of seagrass beds in Sakushima, Nishio City, Aichi Prefecture, and these efforts have been recognized. On November 13, the certification ceremony held at Aichi Prefectural Office was attended by Yusuke Sasada, the manager of our Nagoya branch. Our group will continue to engage in marine conservation efforts.

Iron & steel industry contributes to decarbonization and improvement of seafarers' working environment Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (hereinafter referred to as "Nippon Yusen") and its group company MTI Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "MTI") filed a patent application on November 8 for technology related to the transportation of reduced iron (Note 1) by bulk carriers. This technology refers to a single system that integrates multiple technologies, making it easier to transport reduced iron by sea, which is difficult to manage in terms of safety and quality, and enables safer and higher quality transportation. This will revolutionize the iron & steel industry.
