egan1 : if you're doing anything that is impacting the share price, you're a shit trader. the goal is always to have as little market impact as possible. If I sell 25m shares @  market, the price would quickly collapse, and I would get filled all the way down till it's fully filled. then the selling pressure would disappear, and almost instantly, it would move back up, maybe not all the way but up. meaning it's very likely i would be instantly down on the trade. this is why big traders split up their orders and scale into positions slowly over days to weeks. nobody, and I mean nobody should ever enter a trade in order to intentionally move the price in either direction. just look at Bill Wang. a good portion of an asset managers job is to prevent this slippage.

egan1 : the point is that the only reason for a big enough trader that could impact the share price to enter the trade is if there is bad news and is expected to go down. if a company makes money, it's impossible to short it out of business. the shares have already been sold, and the money from that sale has already been made. the share price has no impact on the ability of the business to operate.
