Masayoshi Son's SoftBank Buys Oracle-Backed Ampere For $6.5 Billion To Boost US AI Push
SoftBank Group acquired Ampere Computing for 6.5 billion dollars.
Japan's SoftBank Group announced on Thursday that it will acquire Ampere Computing for $6.5 billion, a startup that designs server chips based on Arm architecture. According to a statement, SoftBank expects the Trade to be completed in the second half of 2025. The Carlyle Group and Oracle have both committed to selling their respective shares in Ampere Computing. SoftBank stated that Ampere will operate as an independent subsidiary, with its headquarters still located in Santa Clara, California. Masayoshi Son, Chairman and CEO of SoftBank Group, mentioned in another statement: "Ampere's expertise in Semiconductors and high-performance computing has been recognized."
