that will not spur housing starts and that's very simply because consumer savings in the market is getting crushed right now so people will have a much lower consumer confidence they will want to tighten their purse strings that has more to do with a reduction in consumer spending and when you have that reduction in consumption any much lower consumer confidence that's how you get a negative GDP number it's not the manufacturers are not manufacturing it's consumption has slowed manufacturing has to curtail because they just don't want to keep stocking warehouses with inventory when it's not selling.
so the tit for tat tariffs are to level a playing field and all these people up in Canada that are talking tough against the US go online to a search it's all over the place on on x you can see how many years and what extent they've been hammering the United States with tariffs China just fired a shot across Canada over the weekend they put 100% tariffs on Canada
so what will happen is at some point these other countries are going to flinch and they will either reduce their tariffs significantly or eliminate them.
that's what Trump wants is parity, equality. you saw this in Europe where they were taxing that vat 10% on US cars and when Trump said I'm going to tariff plus  vat so 20 percent ... immediately.EU came down to two and a half percent which is what we charge European cars to come into the country.
so the long and the short I don't believe Trump wants a recession I think potentially consumer spending is going to shrink dramatically if you lose 20% of your net worth in the stock market you're not a happy camper if you lose 40% or 50 you're disgusted you're not buying a new house you're not taking a vacation you're not buying a new car that's how recession start

10baggerbamm Ymayuyu OP : you are correct and I had this conversation over the weekend with a guy at the gym who is very much a liberal he came up to me we had words several years ago and I haven't spoken to him since not that I dislike him but we are polar opposites and our political beliefs and our moral beliefs..
I didn't even want to engage in a conversation with him but he stood in front of me while I was working out and started off with well president Trump is really destroying the United States isn't he.
I'm the wrong one that somebody wants to come up to because I have a little bit of ammunition in my holster I have a little bit of understanding about economics and business about President Trump about the art of the deal I can go down the list and probably talk for hours at a time without repeating myself so if I don't bore someone to death I definitely have the ability to make somebody walk away from me in disgust in defeat knowing that I'm that guy that understands business economics finance fiscal monetary policy everything at a very high level.
the one point he brought up was stocks and that President Trump doesn't care about the stock prices he doesn't care about your stocks..

that's the wrong thing to say to people that believe in president Trump that believe in what he is doing that believe in Elon Musk because a lot of people own stock either directly like you do because you're involved in the market on a daily basis or indirectly through their retirement plans their pension plans.
so saying if your stocks going down too bad I think that's bullshit it's really easy when you're a multibillionaire to not give a flying fuck about the little guy and I'm a little guy I might seem like a big fish on here to some people but compared to these guys that are running this country right now and the cabinet members many of them I'm a nobody I'm a rounding error I'm like a month's worth of interest.
and I'm down considerably on My equity holdings just like everybody else and you get to a point where you say fuck it it's too late to sell now I'm down X percent what's it going to do go down another 20 who gives a flying fuck at this point
but we are the little people that are the driving force in the economy we are the ones that go out to dinner we are the ones that take vacations we are the ones that buy the cars we are the ones that order from Amazon we are the consumers of goods and services.
when the stock market falls as rapidly as it has done I don't care if you have no mortgage I don't care if you have an investment property or several and they're rented I don't care if you don't have a credit card or if you do there's zero balance on them I don't care if you don't have a car payment basically I'm saying I don't care if financially you have played by the book
you're getting your ass handed to you right now and you cut back on spending I am and I don't tap any of my accounts I have cash flow coming in from other rentals to pay everything but it hurts immensely.
so having the Secretary of commerce Howard ludden come out and make that statement it really rubs me wrong I think this is a perfect example of a very smart business person speaking before thinking
