The US stock market's unusual calm period faces a test, and Wall Street's well-known team warns that the stock market may experience significant fluctuations.
Some of Wall Street's most well-known trading teams say investors should be prepared for the recent market calm to be broken. Stuart Kaiser, head of Citigroup's US stock trading strategy, said that based on the price of Thursday's parity straddle options, the options market is betting that the S&P 500 index could rise or fall 0.8% after the CPI data is announced that day. If this does happen, it would be the index's largest single-day volatility since June 12. June 12 was the day the US last announced CPI, and the Fed also released rate decisions that day. The US stock market has been locked in recently.
