Summers: The stagflation shock caused by Trump's tariffs puts the Federal Reserve in a difficult position.
The Federal Reserve will announce its interest rate decision on Wednesday afternoon local time. Former U.S. Treasury Secretary Lawrence Summers stated that the Federal Reserve is facing the "toughest challenge" amid rising prices and declining job opportunities. Summers expects that the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) will keep interest rates unchanged on Wednesday, in line with market expectations. The CME Group's FedWatch tool indicates that there is a 99% probability that the rates will remain unchanged at this meeting, and a likelihood of more than 60% for significant rate cuts starting in July, which will rise to nearly 90% in September.
