Former Federal Reserve official Bullard warned that the likelihood of interest rate hikes is rising.
Former President of the St. Louis Federal Reserve and current Dean of the Purdue University Business School, James Bullard, signaled a hawkish stance during a media interview on Friday, indicating that the possibility of the Federal Reserve raising interest rates is increasing. This economist, known as a "barometer of monetary policy," emphasized that the current market's optimistic expectations for interest rate cuts in 2024 may seriously misjudge the resilience of inflation. He stated that some recent hard economic data prompted him to make this assessment: core PCE has increased by 0.4% month-on-month for three consecutive months (equivalent to an annualized rate of 4.9%), and the average monthly job growth over three months remains at 0.245 million people (far exceeding neutral levels).
