How much equity will Microsoft obtain from an investment of 14 billion dollars? OpenAI has provided an initial valuation.
On the evening of January 24, news emerged that the OpenAI Board of Directors is busy with complex negotiations to transform into a for-profit company. According to informed sources, OpenAI has initially valued its newly established charitable department at 30 billion dollars, but it is still difficult to determine how much equity Microsoft will gain from its 14 billion dollar investment. Currently, OpenAI is overseen by its nonprofit committee. However, since last September, the company has been discussing restructuring, hoping to split the company in two. Its charitable department will continue to be responsible for OpenAI's original mission of 'benefiting humanity' and will establish a new 'public benefit company' (PBC).
