Hess Corp Stock Discussion

The Nasdaq broke records Tuesday, jumping over 17k for the first time before pulling back following a three-day break for Memorial Day. The index hit an all-time closing high of 17,019. Still, by the numbers, about 2,000 more equities were declining than climbing.
Just after the close at 4 PM EST, the $S&P 500 Index traded up 0.03%, the $Dow Jones Industrial Average fell about 0.655%, and the $Nasdaq Composite Index closed up 0.59...

The stock market doubts the deal's completion, reflected in a 19% gap between Hess's share price and the offer. Hess shares might be worth owning as the worst-case scenario seems priced in, but a potential Venezuelan takeover of parts of Guyana could complicate matters.

The emerging dispute could potentially derail Chevron's acquisition of Hess, which is largely tied to Hess' 30% stake in the Exxon-led drilling consortium in Guyanese waters. It's unclear if Exxon will make a counter-offer at this point.

Despite rising EPS and low cash flow payout ratio, concerns linger due to the high share of profit paid as dividends. Hess Midstream may not be the best dividend investment choice.

Wall Street shows skepticism regarding Chevron's acquisition of Hess based on a higher earnings multiple compared to other oil-and-gas deals. Issues arise with projects in conflict areas or places under sanctions, along with uncertainties over expanding international operations, notably in Venezuela, after sanction relief.

I have some Chevron shares in my portfolio, and I think that this is an interesting move from the company. I understand why the value of the stock has dropped the past few days because of cash threats, debt, share dilution, and so on from the acquisition.
