The futures price of West Texas Intermediate crude oil (WTI) for August delivery on the New York Mercantile Exchange fell 80 cents, or 0.98%, to close at $80.83 per barrel. The futures price of Brent crude oil for August delivery on the Intercontinental Exchange Europe fell by $1, or 1.16%, to close at $85.01 per barrel. Due to expectations of strong summer fuel demand in the market, the prices of U.S. WTI crude oil and European Brent crude oil have diverged this month.
