With the looming US election and our own elections coming up, it's shaping up to be a possibly volatile future. A tricky parameter for many; the ex-date is more relevant for the seller; meaning if sell on ex-date or after, still includes the entitlement. However for buyer is a bit more tricky, needs to buy BEFORE ex-date. This needs to be in sync with the bourse rules & regulations wrt settlement and eventual records update with the relevant share registrar. The entitlement will be based on updated records with the registrar on the record date. Depending on bourse concerned, may differ geographically, the settlement, i.e. records update at registrar side may take few days. Clearing Information - Singapore Exchange (SGX) Buying-In Settlement of trades executed on SGX securities market takes place on the second market day after the trade date (ie T+2). When a seller does not have sufficient shares in the account for settlement by the start of the final settlement run at 1:30pm on T+2, CDP will conduct buy-in on that afternoon*. Securities bought in successfully will be used to fulfill the seller's delivery obligation on the next business day.Settlement Process After a trade is executed through the clearing member, on T+2, the settlement of cash trades take place. This means that sellers deliver securities to the clearing house in exchange for cash payments and the clearing house delivers securities to the buyers in exchange for cash payments.
