South Korea's antitrust regulatory institutions announced on Thursday that they have decided to impose a fine of 1.48 billion Korean won (approximately 1.07 million US dollars) on Papa John's South Korea company. The reason is that the company engaged in unfair business practices towards franchise stores. The Fair Trade Commission (FTC) of South Korea stated that from July 2015 to the present, the pizza chain designated 15 types of cleaning products such as hand soap as commodities that must be purchased from the headquarters and enforced their purchase and use by franchise stores. According to its operational guidelines, franchise stores that violate these rules will face closure penalties.
