Indian Pharmaceutical stocks fell due to Trump's tariff plan.
The Index of Pharmaceutical stocks in India fell by 2% on Wednesday, after US President Donald Trump announced plans to impose tariffs of about 25% or higher on imported pharmaceutical products. Out of the 20 stocks in this category, 17 fell, with Sun Pharmaceutical and Dr. Reddy's down by 2% and 4% respectively. Aurobindo Pharma fell by 6%. A significant portion of Indian pharmaceutical companies' revenue comes from the USA, which is the largest importer of Indian pharmaceutical products. According to data from the government-backed trade organization, the Pharmaceuticals Export Promotion Council of India, India's pharmaceutical exports to the USA for the fiscal year 2024 amount to 8.73 billion USD.
