October 2024 P/L Challenge - Trading Discipline

Oct 2024 marked my 5th month in investing.
In June & July, I was setting up my portfolio, just experimeting and immersing myself in the new environment.
In Aug & Sept, the USD devaluation swept away a big chunk of my capital. By this time, I still knew very little, so my attitude was that of risk-aversion. I bought up a lot of high dividend stocks, which turned out to be dividend traps, and US WHT made it a double wammy. So, undoing those mistakes...

Be afraid, be very afraid!

2024 Halloween: Share Your “Spooky” Encounters!

6686 : hmm.. looking at your buy and sell point.. I guess you don't have a buy and sell system that you stick firmly to it. I buy based on TA, using stock screener to help me identify good potential stock setting some criteria such as 52week low, more than $1 less than $10, buy or strong buy recommendation, at least 15% dividend and market cap of more than $1B, daily volume more than 1mil. this should help u screen down to just a few stock to buy, part 2 of your tasking is to analyse the history to determine to buy or not, usually there will be the most 2 or maybe none suitable for investment. part 3 is your strategy, what if it falls? when to DCA? when to stop loss? when to buy? when is the best time to buy? etc. if it move up, when to sell? how much to sell? and such.. hopefully u develop your own trading strategy and win some money in future. and don't sell on fear, if u are confident that it will bounce back after u done all your research just stick to it. my longest wait for a recovery is 1 year and it had cut my capital hard but I continue to DCA until I got everything back.

CNNT OP 6686 : Hey, sincere thanks for the concerns and for sharing your approach (i will find time to digest it as it is a lot to take in). These were records from my early days of investing and was just sandboxing, so the Halloween campaign was a good opportunity to turn these bits of info into something entertaining:) Nov will be my 6th month so I'm very cautious now and have learned up TA, FA and paying attention to market info (boy it's almost like a full time job). Less sandboxing, more deliberate decision making. All the best to us in this journey!!

CNNT OP 10baggerbamm : Dude, I'm from the other side of the world, lol, but US stock market is fascinating to play in.
Dude, love is a big word to use on another human being, it should be reserved for people in our life who love us and care about us,, and people who are truly worthy, not some lifelong conman and womaniser who is only manipulating your emotions to get his way. Just an observation from afar. Yes, the system is broken, but it's up to us individually and collectively to do something about it and not let Machiavellians (from any political party, or even civic leaders, business lesders, religious leaders for that matter) gaslight and brainwash you. Look at DJT stock's financials, it's a mess; it's a testimony of the CEO's ability in managing finance, aka the mini economy. Dubious people are everywhere in the corridors of power and money, and he is a clearcut example.
Prayers to you and your country from afar, and for a better tomorrow.

6686 : I took a good look at Nestlé and HEIM, both are at the peak, I won't really recommend them, EC can keep for long term, it's at the valley and may rebounce hard, just awaiting for the right timing, estimated march 2025 when they announce dividend for FY2024. Goodluck!

you say you didn't ban me but reporting me didn't give me a chance to respond to your reply last time about me. So your opinions cannot be checked? who's the biased one now.
also if you actually bothered to understand my viewpoint you wouldn't have just jumped to the conclusion that I hate Tesla. My point was about ARK invest's investment belief not always matching up with their trades. They talk about long term investments I'm disruptive tech but they sold NVDA early, bought Tesla at its peak and had to sell some at a loss. ARK has to answer to their investors so fund managers like that usually can't hold a loss making trade for too long.
Also their valuation for Tesla is just bonkers. Tesla's PE right now is 70, at 260 dollar valuation. I do think Tesla is a good company and they can definitely grow in the future but to reach a valuation of 2000 before 2030? that's purely speculative trading and not investing. Tesla right now is struggling to meet the demand of its buyers, cyber trucks are still slow to roll out. They are receiving very little help as an EV maker from the government due to Elon Musk being disliked by a lot of politicians. But there is a demand for Tesla and I don't see it going away. Their biggest issue is supply at sustaining their growth. Elon is moving his factories to states with more favourable laws, especially after the incident where that judge blocked his contractual bonus from being paid. His biggest issue he faces is expanding his business without letting costs spiral. So Tesla is undergoing a transformation and will take a while before it reaches its full potential.

ZhukovHatesPepsi ZnWC OP : Tesla has only become profitable in the last 5 years so its valuation right now of 70 PE would mean it would need to almost double its EPS to fall into average PE of around 30x of the S&P 500, so 260 right now is the market already pricing in and expecting a doubling in growth. A valuation of 2000 would mean Telsa would have to double its growth, 3 whole more times.
Which I'm gonna be honest that kind of growth in the next 6 years, with Tesla right now backed up on orders already. Its a lot of wishful thinking, which is why I don't like ARKs thinking.
this does not mean I don't like Tesla. I think Tesla can grow and its a good company, I think people who want to buy Tesla must either see it as a long term investment or if they want to make short quick profit they best wait for dips and buy into

My (slow) option trading evolation

I'm very much in a learning and experimentation stage in the stock market in general and more so in option trading specifically. I'm a slow learner and also do not have a lot of time. What I have is the determination
I started to sell covered calls 3 weeks ago. Then I discovered rolling a covered call, so I put that into practice.
This week, I tried selling a put option and subsequently rolling it to maximize my income just in case the contract price goes down...

Oct 2024 PNL sharing - in-depth

Started my investing journey in June, so it's my 5th month now. Time flies, and I didn't feel it at all because the journey was pretty engaging.

One piece of advice for option newcomers: It's not scary!

Not long after the Moomoo event at Bukit Jalil, they stated to push a lot of educational materials and campaigns about US option trading. That worked to pull me in. I studied it but am still not very clear on many terms, strategies, and the concept itself (I'm a slow learner).
However, I saw where I could get started immediately, without too much risk - selling covered calls, monitoring them, buying back, and then doing it all over again...
