The recession argument is around now for 2 years. In the meantime, Meme7 stocks have surged, SPY and QQQ are up significantly, but O&G stock valuations went down.
Reason is very simple: Most investors divest from the sector since there is no perceived l-t future. End of story.

edit: i used to work for suncor decades ago, this company has its shit together, they are "too safe". they won't let their multi billion dollar investment burn down. They literally have the equivalent of a whole fire department just for that facility.
