ProBagHodler : Why did you lose money on the put spread? Looking at the chart, it seems like it should have been a winning trade.
dogsofgods OP ProBagHodler : It is a winning trade.
I opened a put ratio spread for $2.30 total credit, and I closed the entire position for $1 total debit, totalling to about 1.30 credit profit.
1x 80 short / 85 long debit vertical spread -60
1x 80 short put +190
Total 190-60=130
The vertical spread provides some level of protection if the TQQQ price is around 80-85
The debit spread would lose money because prices are going up above 85
ProBagHodler : Oh I see your put spread is debit. I was thinking about a credit spread.
What is the advantages of this put ratio play? It seems like a simple put credit spread could have profited just as much and you pay less in fees.
dogsofgods OP ProBagHodler : Well if the position move against you, you get to sleep better at night.
If all goes well, yes a simple sell put will profit more.
If your position goes against you, the "profits" from the debit spread would indirectly lower your naked short put's basis points more than a naked put based on the wing as you move towards expiration especially; essentially you are paying for some protection, leading to higher probability of profit and better sleep
Down side is you have lower level of profit and higher commission fees to pay due to multi leg option play
Anyway i take profit at 50%
dogsofgods OP ProBagHodler : Btw, I think i would be down 300-400 the next day if it was a short put
